ROLE

Your role is to provide bereavement support, via telephone contact, face to face or group work to the bereaved families (and other significant people) of patients who have died whilst under the care of Farleigh Hospice and individuals referred externally to CIRCLE adult support.

 

KEY TASKS

Tasks may include (not exclusively)

  • Undertaking relevant casework as requested by the Head of Department/Team Leader/Counsellor/office co-ordinator

  • Making regular contact with your allocated case-load as agreed at the outset of support

  • Manage your case-load in liaison with the Head of Department/Team Leader/Counsellor (cases to be closed or re-referred as appropriate)

  • Attend operational supervision/feedback sessions (in a small group) with the Head of Department/Team Leader/Counsellor on a monthly basis

  • Complete online ‘contact sheets’ for statistical purposes, on a monthly basis

  • Complete client notes after each session, using the online notes system

  • Assist with or co-facilitate bereavement groups

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times and adhere to data protection policies and procedures

  • Participate in mandatory training and attend any courses or meetings that may be relevant/required within your role

  • Familiarise yourself and comply with the Health and Safety policy, COSHH Guidelines, Fire procedure, Equal Opportunities, Lone Worker and Disciplinary and Grievance procedure, where appropriate.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Patient, reliable and understanding

  • Keen to help bereaved people through their grief journey

  • Awareness of own response to death, dying and bereavement 

  • Ability to deal with different people and situations sensitively and appropriately, remaining calm and polite at all times

  • A good listener

  • Friendly

  • Ability to facilitate group work and understand group dynamics

  • Very good IT skills

  • Effective oral/written communication, interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work accurately and with attention to detail

  • Willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service

  • Eagerness and ability to learn new skills quickly

  • Understanding and appropriate application of confidentiality
